Digital marketing is always evolving. Are you?
Digital technology is the order of the day when it comes to digital and social media marketing (there’s even a clue in the name). Change is lead by advances in information and communication technologies (ICT) – like high-quality wireless networks, affordable mobile devices and, of course, the internet – and consumer behavior typically follows suit.
What's happening in marketing in 2018?
Hubspot published a comprehensive list of insights and predictions for 2018 from a variety of sources, which offer food for thought when it comes to coming up with ideas to marketing your products and services in the digital realm.
Here are some of the highlights:
- Search goes mobile
Google drives 96% of mobile search traffic (Jody Nimetz Co., 2018) and over 51% of smartphone users have discovered a new company or product while conducting a search on their smartphone (Google, 2018)
- B2B online sales outstript B2C
Business-to-business online sales are expected to outgrow business-to-consumer online sales by 2020 (Ecommerce Platforms, 2018) but security will be an issue as 84% of consumers say they will not make a purchase if they are dealing with an unsecured website (Blue Corona, 2018)
- Video is the way forward
By 2020, telecommunications giant Cisco predicts that video will make up 82% of the content we consume online (Cisco, 2018). Using videos on landing pages will increase conversions by 86% (Wordstream, 2018) and including a video in a post increases organic traffic from search results by 157% (Search Engine People, 2017)
- Local rules
While 90% of searchers haven’t made their mind up about a brand before starting their search (Status Labs, 2018), 72% of consumers who did a local search visited a store within five miles (Wordstream, 2016)
