Karlskrona Stumholmen by Air

Welcome to Karlskrona, where everything began! Declared a world heritage by UNESCO, Karlskrona is a city that lives and breathes history. It is also the place where Hyper Island’s history begins. In 1996 an old military prison on Stumholmen island was transformed into what would become one of the finest institutes for digital education in the world, Hyper Island.

The Campus
Still located on the island where it all started, Hyper Island in Karlskrona has now broken out of the prison, and moved in to larger more practical facilities just outside the prison walls. With Sweden’s richest historical heritage right outside the door and a 360 degree ocean view, Hyper Island Karlskrona is the perfect place for creativity. Our students in Karlskrona develop their talent in an environment full of inspirational beauty.

The City
Once upon a time planned as the capital of Sweden, the naval city of Karlskrona is a place filled with both cultural and historical treasures. Much like Stockholm, Karlskrona is a city made up of several islands in the archipelago, with the island of Trossö at the core. Trossö is where you will find the city center. An island of commerce, culture, and good eating. An island where everything is just ten minutes away. If you want to do shopping, visit a museum, have dinner and then take a stroll along the sea side you can do it all in an afternoon and if you are not already exhausted, still have time to wrap the evening up with a beer at the pub or star gazing atop an old naval fortification.

Living in Karlskrona
Apartments in the city, even on Trossö, are both reasonably priced and fairly accessible. There are usually a fair amount of student apartments and regular apartments available on Trossö, so finding a home within walking or biking distance from the school is often not a problem at all. Hyper Island students sometimes also come together and rent one of the many huge Victorian apartments in the city center and live there as creative collectives. Living in Karlskrona also means living surprisingly close to Europe. Several daily departures to Copenhagen are available by train from the central station. With Ronneby City Airport only 30 minutes away you can be in Antalya, Turkey or on a connecting flight from Stockholm within a few hours. Or why not go on a party cruise to Poland with your fellow classmates to celebrate the success or failure of your latest project? Both equally good reasons to celebrate!
