”If you want to build a ship, don't drum up people to collect wood and don't assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea." Antoine de Saint-Exupery
I am usually not that fond of quotes. Typically I find them simplistic, hollow or ill-fitting with my view of the world and human behaviors. However, there are some quotes that really nails it for me, some which can explain in just a few words what a stack of books can’t. Like the quote above from the French novelist Antoine de Saint-Exupery, which for me explains what leadership and workplace culture is all about when it’s at it’s finest. I truly believe that if you are able to create an environment where people work towards a joint vision with equal stakes in the result almost anything can be achieved. I choose this quote because it summarizes and goes to the core of want I am striving to achieve for my students here at Hyper Island, a longing for the endless immensity of learning.
