Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) is as close as we get to the future today. Some people call it the new mobile, others think that it has become a marketing-driven term. One thing is for certain, it’s growing faster and more sophisticated than experts had anticipated.

Also known as machine learning and neural networks; what artificial intelligence basically does is learn instead of being programmed. The more data that it manages, the better and faster it can learn. We are just scratching the surface of what A.I. can do, but we want to slow down for 5 min and ask 6 questions that might trigger some interesting conversations.

What's Changing?

  1. Should A.I be held accountable for its decisions? Understanding the difference between process and outcome might hold the key to let A.I flourish to its full potential.  → MIT Tech Review

  2. Can an A.I. pilot beat a human pilot in a drone race? On one side you have tireless perfect repetition. On the other the power of human ingenuity. Worth your time.  → NASA

  3. Will machines learn to be creative? Angelina can dream up new games, learns from experience and collaborates with human game designers. Game on!  → MIT Technology Review

  4. What happens when two A.I. systems battle each other? It's called adversarial networks, pushing each other to learn quickly from their weaknesses!  → Fast Company

  5. When will A.I. exceed human performance? Some of the world's leading researchers think in 10 years, other expect 125 years before full automation.  → MIT

  6. Should we put A.I to solve humanity's biggest problems? The number of homeless in NYC has grown 40% since 2012. Some alternatives are being designed, but where are the intelligent, machine learning driven solutions that put an end to the problem?

Reflection (?)

As A.I. and Machine Learning continue to grow, what are some of the advantages humans have over a machine? What are the areas you think we should apply this incredible processing (thinking) power? Write down your thoughts on your favorite notebook.
