From Illustration to Film Animation – Meet Motion Designer Sophia

We met with Motion Designer (previously called Motion Creative) student Sophia Brüggeman, 23, in Karlskrona for a short but sassy interview.

Hi Sophia! What’s that?

It’s a sketch. I’m doing a workshop about character design at the moment.

Before Hyper Island you were doing a lot of sketching already, right?

Yes, I studied illustration in the UK and before moving into Film, which I studied for one year at a Folkhögskola in Norway.

What got you interested in Hyper Island? How did you hear about it?

I attended a workshop that was held by someone from Hyper Island. That made me super curious about the school. I did some research and I really liked what I found, so I just applied.

What do you like most about studying here?

The best thing about Hyper Island for me is, that I feel prepared for the Industry thanks to the client projects we do. It makes me confident in what I am doing. I’ve also learned a lot about working in teams and self-leadership. I now feel like I have an understanding of what my strengths and weaknesses are, which are valuable insights.

How does an average day at Hyper Island look for you?

The only thing that’s average is that I actually work from nine to five. Mostly we start with a check-in with the team so that everyone knows what to do with the current production. But after that, no day is the same.

How is it to live and study in Karlskrona?

Äh, well… studying in a small city encourages you to focus on your education. Also, it’s much more affordable to live here than in e.g. Stockholm.

What do you want to do after Hyper Island?

I would like to move abroad but mainly I want to keep my options open. Right now I think I want to work as a Creative Director when I’m done.

Thanks for taking the time to speak to us, Sophia! We hope you have a great day.
