A Co-Created City Tour of Karlskrona
As a final project, Learning Designer & Facilitator (LDF) student, Emelie Trossö, is presenting a city walk in Karlskrona that is based on stories from the townspeople. Drama artists, dancers, and even tour participants themselves will contribute to the performances.
Here's what Emelie had to say:
So, Emelie, tell us a bit about the project.
For my final project, I wanted to do something I found meaningful and where I could utilize my background and skills. Before I started the LDF program, I used to work with theatre in different parts of Sweden. I grew up in Karlskrona and this is also where I’ve attended the Learner, Designer and Facilitator program. Based on these elements, I came up with the idea to arrange a city tour in Karlskrona, based on the stories of the people in Karlskrona so that we are all part of creating it, performed in an alternative way with music, drama and dance.
We’ll be performing throughout July. You can get your tickets here: http://bit.ly/MDEUz1
How does this relate to the LDF program?
Well, the final project is about organizational learning. I look at Karlskrona as an organization, the making and performing of the city tour as the process, and the people living in the city – as well as in my team – as the people collaborating within this system. I will evaluate and analyze the project from an LDF perspective.
How have you gotten the stories?
From workshops and interviews with people living here.
What kinds of stories have you heard?
There’s a variety of stories being told, but one thing I’ve noticed that is shining through a lot is the sense of a rebellious spirit. One example is of a guy who climbed on top of the city church, and sang to Carola (note: a famous Swedish singer) and for the king to “Greet” his arrival. This and many other stories will be told in, what we hope it to be, a humoristic and compelling way. We also open up for the participants to tell their own stories during the tour as well.
What do you hope accomplish with this project?
One main outcome we hope to see is for the participants to feel even more committed, engaged, and proud to be living in Karlskrona. Of course, we hope the stories will continue to live on as they’ve been created by the voices of Karlskrona.
So what’s next?
Not sure. I will see what comes out of the show, but I’ll start by taking it easy and just enjoy the rest of the summer!
